The email below is a "Google Alert". This is the Google system that keeps track of phrases that you are interested in e.g. names of clients, competitors etc. When Google sees that phrase appear on a page that has been recently added to its index, it alerts you.
The email below is one I received today as you can see from the date. Nothing unusual there. However, the alert was generated because this morning I signed up for Slideshare.net. Slideshare.net is a website where you can share presentations with the world. You upload a presentation and it converts it to a Flash file. There is also a "widget" so you can embed presentations into your own website, just like I have done.
The WOW bit of this is that it only took six hours from when I signed up with Slideshare.net for Google to find the new page on the Slideshare website. Just lucky or does Google index Slideshare.net more often as it knows what great content it has? Who knows.
