Anyone who knows me, knows that I admire "ballsy marketing" and this particular campaign is right up there with the most ballsy ones.
Trethowans have been writing to hairdressers on their patch asking them to refer clients who may be having marital problems. Besides being picked up by a number of newspapers (here's one example from The Times) Bryn Hughes the marketing manager at Trethowans was on FiveLive last week defending their actions.
Now, I did not hear the radio broadcast, but I've had it a reported to me that the hairdressers were being asked to call Trethowans with the name of the client, if that is true, then personally I find that to be a step too far. Giving them business cards, with some special code on to identify the particular hairdresser I can understand, and allowing the client to choose to call the firm, but not passing on their name.
