What does your business card say?
I have two business cards. One is my day job, “Sales & Marketing Director” the other is also my day job, “Director of Stuff & Things”. This is everything else that I do in our small business e.g. a bit of a Finance Director role and a bit of an HR Director role. That’s the way it goes in small businesses isn’t it? A bit of everything?
I make a conscious decision about which card to give to which person when I meet them. Occasionally I give them this card and they can't even be bothered to look at it properly and completely miss the fun job title...bit rude that eh?
Anyway, what does your business card say about you? Why not have more than one business card? One with your proper day job e.g. Partner, Solicitor and one with something more “fun”….I know, lawyers having fun. How about these :-
- Head of Getting Client’s Money Back – debt recovery
- Chief in Charge of Asset Protection – family
- Anti HMRC Executive – probate solicitor
- Job Keeping Executive – employment team
What other great job titles can you come up with?
I once met an accountancy firm where everyone in the firm, and I mean everyone, had a business card. Even better, they could put whatever they wanted on their card as their job title as long as it wasn’t a lie or misleading. Guess who’s business card was “Director of Internal Communications”? Answer at the foot of the page!
Oh one more thing....can law firms please STOP giving Trainee Solicitors business cards that say "Trainee" on them....do they SERIOUSLY think they are enjoying giving those out!!!
