In May, it was a year since I entered the orange oasis that is Conscious Solutions – for those of you who haven’t visited our office, we really do stick to our theme. From the orange-wrapped welcome gifts on desks to our infamous dogs and of course, David Gilroy in his vivid attire. It quickly became clear that orange was to be my new favourite colour (cue searching online for appropriate event-wear). That being said, it was pretty apparent that Conscious had the substance to match its lively style.
The Team
Once my eyes had adjusted, it was time to meet my new colleagues. Despite being in the midst of COVID restrictions, I was swiftly welcomed into the fold, and Conscious’ effort to keep us all connected throughout those ‘unprecedented times’, made my integration into the team so much easier.
It can be daunting starting a new job, and naturally, we wonder if we’ll gel with our new team (I know I did). Looking back now, I had nothing to worry about; there is such an eclectic mix of personalities at Conscious, that you’re bound to find a kindred spirit in somebody! Recently, the Marketing Team asked us how we would describe Conscious using just one emoji – while the natural choice would of course be 🍊, for me, the rainbow 🌈 is an apt depiction of our colourful mix of characters. One year on, and as the business grows, it’s lovely to now be part of this welcome party for our new starters.
As well as being a friendly bunch, I’m also fortunate enough to be surrounded by people who really are experts in what they do - which is just as well, as my job as an Account Executive would prove very difficult without them. As I navigate my career, I’ve come to appreciate the saying “If you’re the smartest person in the room, then you’re in the wrong room” –a little cheesy, but once you’ve tossed your ego aside, you will reap the benefits of learning from your colleagues… thanks guys!
Our Clients
While law and marketing aren’t two sectors that naturally overlap, over the past year, I’ve gotten to know lots of clients across a plethora of specialisms, and it really must be said – lawyers are a lot friendlier than their reputation would have you believe.
Our clients are at the forefront of what we do, and this is particularly relevant in the Account Management Team. While we of course spend a lot of time advising clients on their digital marketing strategy, it is the all-important personal connection that we strive for at Conscious, that I think sets us apart (if you ever swing by, rest assured that we will have your favourite biscuits in the cupboard!)
In particular, working alongside Sahra Tulloch over the past year has been invaluable in learning the ropes of account management and the value of the relationship we have with our clients. With her guidance, forging these connections of my own has been a highlight of my time at Conscious so far, and I’m looking forward to meeting more clients in person soon.
Our Culture
Over the past ten months, we’ve been working hard to consolidate exactly which values we hold as a business today and how we can integrate these into our everyday work. With the help of our dedicated Culture Team, we’ve narrowed these down to: Generosity, Transparency, Inquisitive, Collaborative and Empowerment - or an easy way to remember it: G&T over ICE. This was a key focus at our ‘Conscious@21 Conference’ last year, which was a great way to bring the team together with a common focus, as well as lots of fun in-between (the surprise singing waiters were my personal favourite).
It's the ‘fun’ element of working at Conscious that I really appreciate – thanks to our Fun Team, we’ve hosted some pretty great parties, and quite often you’ll find a group of us heading out after work for a catchup. It’s rewarding to work with people who are great at their jobs but know how to let their hair down, well those who have it!
It’s also been great to give back and get involved with the charity work at Conscious. Most recently, we’ve been supporting Bristol-based charity, Gympanzees, in raising funds for their Project Home appeal. Some brave members of the team took on the Three Peaks Challenge in June and lots of us have used our dedicated charity days to volunteer at the Gympanzees pop-up events, which provide leisure facilities and vital support to disabled children and their families.
Add to this our internal Wellbeing and Green Teams, which makes for what I think, is a well-rounded culture, and a company that really is Conscious (I couldn’t resist).
