360 Legal Group 2013 Annual Conference

360 Legal Group 2013 Annual Conference

I attended the 360Legal annual conference on earlier this month and finally got round to writing my blog on it so apologies for the delay. Here are just a few of the guest speakers and their key points around the legal profession today.

Viv Williams CEO of 360 Legal Group opened the conference with a talk on the survival of the modern law firm. Viv stressed the principles of lean management, ranging from the need to define overarching firm strategy through to the importance of good pricing to ensure clients are receiving good value for money, and everything in between.

Next up was Chris Kenny, CEO of the Legal Services Board, giving a talk entitled ‘Regulation, Regulation, Regulation’. The topic was (gasp!) the importance of regulation and its impact, both positive and negative, on the legal profession. He reiterated the role of regulation and its significance to the man on the street, protecting the public interest, improving access to justice, and thus supporting the principle of the rule of law. Chris highlighted several priorities going forward: the demand to keep regulation simple so that growth isn’t hindered; the need to encourage a more flexible legal workforce; while all the time maintaining, and where necessary strengthening, consumer protection. His talk drove home the need for regulation not to be driven by historical precedent or self interest but by the need to address risk and encourage dynamism in the legal sector.

Up last was Lesley Graves, MD of Citadel Law, giving a talk on risk in a post-LASPO and LSA world. Her talk was bursting at the seams with information and advice, but I found her top five tips for maximising value in a PI case particularly educational.

Check out these summaries of some of the talks given at the Legal 360 Conference if you didn't make it!

On ending we still don’t know who stole our dog, but who was safely returned the following morning. We are still investigating! Any budding Columbos, get in touch!

See you all soon
